17OCT2014 // CLOSET DIARIES

2-in-1 Mesh Dress: Melissa Araujo / Sneakers: EYTYS (sold at HOODWINK)
Here’s a really lovely spread for this month’s Closet Diaries with Meg Magazine. Thank you so much for this, Meg (special shout out to Portia)!
I didn’t have a lot of time to think about what to wear and what to show in this feature, but I think here you see something that can exactly represent me today. For one, I am wearing all black in each outfit, most of which I have owned for ages. And two, I’ve started repeating ‘favourite things’ to feature!
Doing this one made me realize that I’ve really slowed down collecting things, or even shopping loads (which I know is a little strange for a personal style blogger). Over the years I have collected things I really like, that are versatile, simple enough to be basic and make a subtle statement in styling. Though I do try new things, there is now the “core” that is the aforementioned (very humble) collection that I work around today. The reason could easily be the expenses, the idea of quality over quantity, the challenge of working with a smaller, more curated wardrobe. Better yet, it could be the mix of all the above—for now (of course there will always be a long want and to-buy-one-day list growing longer).

25JUL2014 // PREVIEW LOOKS PT. 1

Look 1-  Striped Reverse Shirt: CDG Shirt / Trousers: Costume National / Monk Strap Shoes: Balenciaga
Look 2-  Lawn Tee: American Apparel / Culottes: Vintage (Terriblay) / Sneakers: CDG PLAY
Sharing the looks that were featured in this month’s issue of Preview MagazineTinay Villiamel (owner and creative director of Bleach Store) and I were placed under the conversation of Genderless Dressing for this year’s Best Dressed issue, and these are the two main looks I came up with that were published in the magazine. The shoot went so smoothly, and the only reason I knew what to do in terms of posing was all due to the direction by the super talented Vince Uy.

Comme des Garçons is the absolute epitome of genderless dressing, its literal translation from French is “Like Boys”. Needless to say, I gain a lot of inspiration from Rei Kawakubo’s amazing work, and aspire to wear her designs more often someday! I have two other looks that weren’t published in the magazine, I’ll be sharing them here soon!

SO THEY CHALLENGED MY STYLE

I’m very excited to share a little feature I have in this month’s Preview magazine. Thanks to Karen for finding me and producing this feature and writing an awesome piece that explains my personal style; not to mention the challenge she gave me! Style Profile is a fun challenge that forces one to bring out their personal style regardless of what is thrown at them. I had to style a circle skirt four ways. Karen knew that I’m no girly girl. All I can say is, I’m so happy that it was black. If you live in the Philippines, go get one now!

MY FIRST FEATURE: YSTYLE!

I’ve had the great honour of being featured in the YStyle section in one of our national papers, The Philippine Star for the 16th of August (you can read it here). It’s my first one ever, and I am very excited about it! Thank you so much to Raymond, Cai, and Cholo- for easing my shyness and making the experience fun as it was. You guys are awesome!!

Truth be told, I don’t have many designer pieces, I have a select few. All of which have been carefully chosen, used, and abused accordingly. I am hoping one day to have a narrowed down closet of my favourite things and be more sure of my style. Every year, I find myself that tiny bit closer to that goal. Well, maybe except for shoes. I will always need more shoes and will never think I have enough.
